Natural Exploration
Taking in and appreciating the natural beauty that nature offers us is important at Maple Crest. Our students benefit season after season from our large, natural yard. They are able to use and apply elements of the world around them throughout the day. Letters and numbers are drawn in the snow, pinecones and maple keys can be counted and sorted, and sand can be sifted, weighed and inspected. Inside the school the materials utilized by the students is natural, inviting and aesthetically pleasing.
Art
At Maple Crest, we integrate art into every aspect of the day. It is the very foundation that we build the rest of our academic subjects upon. Whether it be drawing Aztec symbols to represent their number system or counting rocks and sticks as we add them to a three-dimensional picture, we are able to incorporate art into every unit studied. Art enhances critical thinking skills by shaping the way children observe the world around them.
Character Development
At Maple Crest, the development of social skills and positive character always comes first. We aim to guide and help to develop students who are well rounded, calm, polite and who contribute positively to the environment around them. Kindness is practiced daily. Students are treated as competent and capable, and given the time and space for problem solving. Every day at school provides them many opportunities to put their social skills into practice in meaningful and concrete ways. Children step in to help each other, big friends take care of younger friends and leaders are born. Our students go throughout their day with a smile.
Academics
Maple Crest offers an enhanced, enriching and engaging academic curriculum. Students are exposed to all facets of learning and enjoy honing their skills in a variety of ways. They are taught to be active listeners, keen problem solvers and independent thinkers. Students are given the time and space they need to tackle and perfect the many aspects of their education. Each child is honoured as an individual and their success is encouraged and celebrated daily.
Community Involvement
Maple Crest appreciates the diverse and interesting community around our school. We capitalize on the many talents of our families. We enjoy inviting parents to share their skills and know-how with our students. As a school, we feel it’s important to reach out with support for our community. We actively teach our students about the world beyond themselves and hope to inspire the joy of giving in all our students.
